Port Votes Against South Bay Power Plant

Sí se puede!

Another important hurdle in our bid to remove polluting power generation from the Chula Vista Bayfront was achieved yesterday, Tuesday, March 13, 2007. The Port of San Diego has followed the wishes of Chula Vista residents and rejected any new power plant on San Diego Bay.  The Port will assist in the search for appropriate non-bayfront sites for a new power plant in the South Bay so that the California Independent System Operator, or Cal ISO, can remove the “reliability must run” designation from the South Bay Power Plant.

“The votes of the City and the Port demonstrate how proactively South Bay leaders are engaging in the energy debate. Only through strong local leadership, like we are seeing today, will good local solutions be crafted for our communities,” stated Laura Hunter, EHC Campaign Director. “We applaud the courage and the vision of the Port and the City on this issue.”

EHC pledges to continue to work hard to develop and implement a plan that will remove the RMR and the old power plant and put San Diego on track to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
