“Peace Through Awareness”
Authentic Awareness® is a practice that allows you to quickly feel calmer by
bringing your attention away from compulsive thinking and directing it into your
body.
You can experience deep relaxation with increased energy as an outcome of
observing your breath.
Please set aside a time to sit comfortably in a chair or lie down with your
eyes closed as you begin to observe your breath. You’ll feel an inhale and a
pause and an exhale and a pause. Allow sounds to come and go as you continue to
witness your breath without trying to change it in any way. You may also
observe thoughts coming and going. If you find yourself carried away on a
little journey with one of the thoughts, that’s normal, but gently come back to
observing your breath. The key is to not fight with or resist what happens.
Over time, with consistent practice of about twenty minutes daily, there will be
more and more space between the thoughts. As you settle into your essence, you
experience peace and calmness.
Afterwards, you may realize that stillness was at the center even though you
were aware of peripheral sounds and thoughts. Ultimately, this practice is
transferable to your everyday life and will help you to learn the art of going
with the flow.
Frequently pause to feel your breath. This awareness will help you with
decision making as it stops chaotic mind chatter while bringing you into the
present moment and clarity.
If you feel stressed, have pain or discomfort or difficulty sleeping, shift
your attention to feeling your breath and maintain that presence for as long as
needed to relax.
