HEALTH ALERT
Flu Season is Here! Protect Yourself, Your Family and Your Community!
Did you know that…more than 36,000 people in the U.S. die because of the flu? More people die from the flu or its complications than from any other vaccine-preventable disease.
Flu shots are recommended in October or November every year, especially for:
- Adults 65 years of age or older – even if healthy.
- Children 6 months – 23 months old – even if healthy.
- Household contacts and people who take care of infants from 0-23 months of age.
- Pregnant women.
- Adults and children with chronic diseases (heart disease, lung disease, asthma, cancer, diabetes, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS or immune system disorders).
- Residents of nursing homes or long-term care facilities.
- Health care personnel who provide direct patient care
The Flu Mist nasal vaccine is available for healthy individuals 5-49 years olds.
